This shawl pin was inspired by ceremonial wood carvings created by Dayak groups in Kalimantan. The sculptural pieces that inspired this pin represent the large and striking bird called the Hornbill, which has colorful feathers, a large beak, and a hornlike structure on it's forhead. The Hornbill, as evidenced by the centrality of representations of the bird, is important in native thought and ritual. This shawl pin celebrates this cultural history.
