Swirls Shawl Pin
Made in the USA
Pewter & rosewood stick
The Spiral Shawl Pin is curved to accommodate knitwear underneath the ornament.
I love spiral forms and they re-emerge over and over in my work in different shapes and with different reference points. Spirals come up in native art forms across the globe and almost always represent eternity, sometimes prosperity. They can be associated with mortuary ceremonies or with birth - in both cases, they are marking the cyclic nature of life and the transformation from one state to another. These swirls remind me of the shells of the Japanese snails that live in the large ceramic pots that I have in my garden that are home to my goldfish, koi and water lilies.
