This bag is an iteration of a bag I hand-stitched using a chain stitch executed with a needle. The bag was made by a workshop a Kashmiri woman started to assist other women - widows - in developing a skill they could use to support themselves and their children after their husbands were killed in armed conflict.
I worked on the product development for this bag for a long time and just as we were getting close to having a saleable product, the workshop was struck by a flood and everything was lost, including the best stitcher they had, who had been working on my project, as she was lured away by a company specializing in chainstitch embroidery.
I never had the opportunity to bring this bag to market in a form that I was completely satisfied with. But I do have these two prototypes of one of the stages of our product development process.
Now they are available for you to love and use.
They are fully lined in cotton canvas with a zippered pocket and leather handles.
