We decided to experiment with turning several of our filigree animal charms into stud buttons. This second iteration has a longer shaft so is suited for fingering weight fiber and is likely best securing only two layers, though it's possible more thicknesses are possible.

We are currently re-designing the shaft to be longer to accommodate a broader range of fiber weights.  In the meantime, this lovely works great on two layers of knitted or crocheted material in lightweight fiber.
