This brooch was made from a quarter-Rial denomination coin that was minted in the Muslim year 1315.  It's currently 1445.

This pin, though fairly small, is quite robust.  The wires feel nicely hardened, making this appropriate to wear with fingering or worsted weight yarns. The ring on the bottom was partly crushed at some point but might still be able to hold a tiny chain or a very small cord. The ring would have connected to a necklace strung between two brooches, which would have been worn at the front of each shoulder.
