Terraced Hill Shawl - in 2 Scales Plus Customization Instructions for a Personal Scale
Terraced Hill is a simple form in garter stitch, designed with the body in mind. My intention with this pattern is to bring the idea of size-inclusivity to an accessory that is typically treated as un-sized even though scale matters in the realm of shawls and whether the scale of a shawl corresponds well to your body is potentially the difference between a wonderful, wearable knitwear wardrobe staple and a heartbreaking waste of time and material.
Terraced Hill is presented in two different scales so that knitters with different shoulder widths may achieve similar looks once the shawl is styled. In addition, I have developed a series of measurements that takes the mystery out of this question of scale. The customization instructions direct you to take relevant measurements to ensure the scale of the shawl’s elements works for your body and your preferences. You then use these measurements to create a flat pattern that works as a template or guide for making increases in an improvisational and totally personal manner to create the terraced look of the curved edge of the shawl.
